The origin of the project
The Abbe Forest, located in the department of Meurthe-et-Moselle (France), is mainly composed of oak trees. Unfortunately, this ageing stand now needs to be renewed to secure its future. On the parcel, the presence of young thumbs coming from the trees’ natural regeneration is an encouraging sign.
As part of the project, the growth of 22,500 young trees is supported thanks to various silvicultural operations, which will prevent the owner from harvesting it. This gentle method will cause less disturbance to the forest ecosystem, while ensuring the establishment of species adapted to the site conditions. For this project, access roads called 'partitions' will be created to facilitate movement and work on the plot without disturbing the fauna and flora. Clearing will also be carried out to remove surrounding invasive plants that could hinder the development of young plants. This approach will help diversify the stand while enriching the local biodiversity. In addition, the trees planted will store carbon, thus contributing to the fight against climate change.
