The origin of the project
This rural commune of Luxemburg, where the project is located, is mainly composed of meadows and forests. Unfortunately, the stand to be reforested, mainly composed of spruce trees, was weakened by its lack of diversity and consequently had to face an invasion of bark beetles. These xylophagous insects dig galleries under the bark of the trees, which blocks the circulation of the sap and causes the death of the affected specimens. A clear cut followed, hence the need for this reforestation.
1,300 trees now enhance these parcels. This mixture of species will constitute a diversified stand, making this massif more resistant to external hazards. The biodiversity of these plots will be enriched thanks to the procession of fauna, flora, bacteria and fungi that each species of tree generates. In addition, the restoration of this forest will allow to store carbon, thus participating in the fight against climate change. Once mature, the trees will also contribute to the sustainable production of lumber and to the economy of the surrounding area, using local labor.
