Project description

Help Reforest'Action and the Office national des forêts to restore this declining Côte-d'Or afforestation!

The project at a glance

Number of trees to be planted: 3,311
Plantation area: 3 hectares
Species planted: sessile oak, wild cherry, chestnut, sycamore maple
Project type: restoration of declining stands

Background

This parcel of the Jeulois wood is located in the commune of Vonges. This area was managed in coppice, a type of management which, over the years, greatly weakens the trees. Added to this poor management was the chalarose disease, which decimated the ash trees on the plot. The Office national des forêts therefore recommended the renewal of this stand, with a majority of sessile oaks, locally adapted but also leaving the other species free to develop. In order to encourage the diversification of the stand, other deciduous species, including forest fruit trees, will be planted.

This tree-planting project will create a true forest ecosystem. The planting of a diversity of species will provide biodiversity with a rich and perennial habitat. The stand will also be strengthened and less susceptible to possible diseases and pests. In addition, the trees will produce quality wood, sustainably storing carbon.
