Project description

Reforest'Action and its partner Fransylva invite you to participate in the financing of this reforestation in the Meuse !

The project at a glance

  • Number of trees to be planted: 13,050
  • Plantation area: 7.47 hectares
  • Species planted: douglas, larch, sycamore, sessile oak, cherry.
  • Project type: planting of a neglected farmland
  • Season of plantation: Winter 2021

Context

Located in Val-d’Ornain, Grand-Est, the forest has been several times damaged.

The stand, already weakened by former silvicultural management methods, was badly hit by the storm of 1999. In September 2016, the remaining trees were then devastated by a tornado which destroyed 95% of the stand. As a result, only a few strands of coppice remained. Since no natural regeneration occurred in the long term, this plot was milled and replaced with Douglas fir between 2018 and 2020. Un-fortunately, summer droughts devastated the massif, leading to the loss of 70% of the new plants.

This afforestation project aims to readjust the planting approach in order to better conserve and enhance the species selected.13,050 trees of various species are thus planted to restore the forest ecosystem and encourage biodiversity.

As a result, the emerging forest will be better adapted to climate change and be more resistant to various forms of natural hazards. In the long term, the plantation will contribute to the production of timber and participate in the fight against global warming, thanks to the carbon stored by the trees.
