In Sumatra, local communities get involved in the mangrove restoration

In Sumatra, Indonesia, our mangrove restoration project, initiated in 2017, aims to increase the capacity of this ecosystem to protect coastlines and reduce the risk of natural disasters, as well as to create income-generating activities for local communities. For the past 3 years, we have been supporting the rebuilding of the mangroves on the island of Sumatra, which has been particularly affected by deforestation. More than 220,000 mangroves have been planted since 2017. Find out all the news about our project!

Launch of the new season of mangrove restoration in Sumatra

A new season of mangrove restoration has opened in February in Sumatra. Tree nurseries were supplied with seeds and with mangrove propagules thanks to the common endeavor of local communities.

Indonesia: our young mangroves have successfully reached their first year

After the planting period during which 4000 mangroves took root in North Sumatra between autumn 2017 and winter 2018, our partner Yagasu spent the rest of the year with the local population maintaining the trees planted. Discover pictures of your young shoots!
