Toute l'actualitéIn March 2019, 3 200 date palms and almond trees were planted in the Alnif oasis, in Morocco, to support a restoration project of an irrigation system and thus fight desertification.
In Alnif, oasis home to 4 728 inhabitants, located at the crossroads of Moroccan South-East touristic axes, irrigated agriculture is the main source of revenues of households. Cultivated parcels composed of vegetable and cereals currently cover roughly 500 hectares.
The khettara (ancestral irrigation system) of the village is, however, threatened by par erosion. Restoration works of the wells are thus undertaken by the Bougafer association. In this context, palm and almond trees were planted in agroforestry, in order to protect the crops and contribute to sustainable development in the Alnif oasis.
