Amblève - Belgium
Forest restoration and creation
The project is part of a 150ha multi-annual campaign to restore and diversify this spruce stand, a monospecific forest degraded by the bark beetle.

The project is rooted in a public forest in Wallonia. It is located in the country's highest region, at an altitude of 500m. This very rural region is known for its vast forest massifs, which are popular with hikers, horse riders and cyclists. The massif is part of a vast 20,000ha forest belonging to the Bullange cantonment and managed by the DNF, Département de la Nature et des Forêts (Belgium). As is the case in most Walloon forests, softwoods are very present in the stands, notably spruce, which was massively planted in the 19th and 20th centuries for its high growth capacity and the technological quality of its wood.
